MT Haven - Inner sanctum
History:
MT Haven, formerly Amoco Milford Haven, was a VLCC (very large crude carrier). In 1991, while loaded with 144,000 tonnes (1 million barrels) of crude oil, the ship exploded, caught fire and sank off the coast of Genoa, Italy, killing six Cypriot crew and flooding the Mediterranean with up to 50,000 tonnes of crude oil. It broke in two and sank after burning for three days.
Today:
Today, the wreck is among the most legendary dive sites in the Mediterranean sea. Habitat for marine wild life, it offers opportunities for different dive levels from advanced recreational to technical.
At TechDive in Arenzano, Andrea Bada has log hundreds of hours diving the enormous wreck. He definitely knows it inside and out.
I had the opportunity to dive the site a few times and must say I'm trilled to do more. Great camera angles are countless around the wreck.
Inner Sanctum:
As I swam through the darkness, the wreck's inner rooms revealed themselves to me. The soft glow of my lights illuminated the rusting steel, and the shadows danced across the walls. In these intimate spaces, I found a sense of mystery and wonder.
The labyrinth:
inner rooms are a labyrinth of corridors and chambers, each with its own unique character. As I explored these spaces, I discovered hidden nooks and crannies, testament to the power of Nature, where steel and machinery are slowly being reclaimed by the sea.
Capturing the Haven wreck's inner rooms required a combination of technical diving skills and creative vision. I had to navigate narrow corridors and chambers, all while managing my equipment and maintaining mental focus over technical diving parameters. The challenges of technical diving are matched only by the rewards. As I explored the wreck, I was struck by the eerie silence and the sense of weightlessness that comes with being underwater.
As I emerged from the darkness of the wreck, I felt a sense of accomplishment and wonder. The Haven wreck's inner rooms are a world unlike any other, and I'm grateful to have had the chance to be there with the guidance of one of the deepest expert of this diving site.
Thanks for watching.
