THE CONCEPT:
In a metaphysical place with blurred boundaries, suspended in time and space. A portal, a breach in the wall, the boundary between the space of the exhibition and the space of imagination. A table – the symbol of encounters and exchanges – emerges from dim light as the absolute protagonist. Its rigorous shape is disrupted by raw and blurry outlines. Its symmetrical volumes are replicated in a game of reflections, which bends prospective and abstracts the environment surrounding it. Matter, beyond any other substance. Eternal, yet mutable.
STYLE
The pieces embody an enigmatic fusion between primitive shapes and contemporary language. An immense top and a solid base, like a cliff aground in the sand. A lamp, halfway between a suspended rock blade and a sophisticated technological device. And then two chairs, massive as medieval thrones, yet stripped to the bone, in minimalist code. Just like in De Chirico’s paintings, few elements resting on the top create a well-calculated scene. Fragments of life, taken out of context and painstakingly rearranged, emerge solitary in all their iconic strength.
LIGHTING AND TECHNIQUE
Lighting was essential to represent the artwork in its beauty, accordingly to its style and nature, in full reality and yet visually extracting it from the actual location at the company headquarters. Besides some obvious clean up of unwanted elements, the retouch work is limited to a few composition adjustments and image balance. The masterpiece has been lit for each single shot with good use of occlusion technique to isolate its presence from the room.
